Confusion, The Precursor?

·2 mins

What does this mean? What is this feeling I’m having? I can’t make sense of this.

After some great conversations with my dear friend Abigail, we’ve created a lot of confusion and open thoughts in each other. Awesome!

How often do I feel confused and not having a clear answers to the question presented? Quite often.

And that’s a good thing.

Since confusion seems to be a precursor.. to deeper understanding.

When the connections in our brain are already made, we are in the territory of the familiar. That’s great, and nicely efficient. It doesn’t cost a lot of energy and we can ride that wave big time.

It’s when we’re presented with new challenges, new perspectives, and new thoughts, that we become confused.

“Is this really the case? I hadn’t seen evidence for this… What would this mean? Could there possibly be truth in this?”

“How does this match with my other truths and thoughts? Am I still having a clear picture on this situation? Am I wrong on this?”

Often times, I’ll disregard contrary evidence to my already established opinions and world view.

And other times, I’ll smell some truth in there. Which is when I get confused.

Feeling confused is rather unsettling.

It’s this uncertainty, unclarity and unease which pulls us back to familiar thoughts and patterns.

However, it’s also an indicator for new connections forming. New truths.

Confusion is an announcement that some new, big understanding is being formed.

And this is wonderful!

It’s the gate to new understanding and insight. It’s the confirmation that our brains are still learning and opening up for new things. It’s the affirmation that we are still alive.

Confusion is often looked down upon, but I think we get to develop a new, intimate relationship with it.

All that being said, I wish you lots of confusion and deeper understanding in your day today!

May you keep looking for new, confusing information and may your mind stay fresh and open!
